Coventional Degree : The Talent Killer

"Its the degree that matters. You'll have no problems after you complete your degree, you'll be placed in a good company..."

These were the words that my dad said to me when i protested against joining an engineering college after my schooling. I never wanted to be an engineering student.. I was more interested in doing some creative stuff..like being a graphics designer or maybe an event manager..But my parents wanted it cause every other science student was doing it. It was "Conventional".

Is the famous " conventional degree" killing talent and supressing creativity. It did in my case... am a third year student( doing engineering ofcourse)... i have a job in one of the top 10 IT firms..but does it really matter.. not for me..mmmm.. maybe it does..after all i'll not have to post my resume in those dozens of jobsites looking for jobs... But am i really enjoying what am doing.. writing codes i dont want to.. cramming circuits that am not going to build...

How can we overcome this demon...the mindset of our parents that doesnt allow most of us to opt for unconventional careers.. Share your thoughts with me n others .. hit me back..

cheers
